Hello everybody. It's a new year. It's 2017, and here we are at Vagabrothers talking about the best travel destinations for this coming year. There's a lot of new places a lot of places we haven't been yet, but we've gone through and picked the best 10 destinations for 2017 https://casinoslots.sg/black-hawk-deluxe.
As we know 2016 was a crazy year all around the world so this year we're taking into consideration political stability and exchange rates, so you can travel to place their safe and inexpensive. So first up Europe: top destination in Europe is..... England . Well the United Kingdom, in general. Brexit happened last year, and that's changed a lot of things, but what has done has made the pound really cheap. It's cheaper to travel now to the UK than it has been in a long time, so we encourage you to go the UK and get beyond London and go to Northern England where we did a trip last year, amazing . Or Wales where we're going to be going later this year. It might not be the most unique, and chances are you've been to London, but this is the time to get out and explore the UK. Next up: Caribbean. Cuba is the top destination for 2017. Fidel Castro has just died. Chances are the situation in Cuba is going to change rapidly. We recommend getting in there before it does. It's on the top of our bucket list for 2017, so hopefully we'll have some vlog series for you guys soon. Number 3: Latin America . Winner is ...Columbia. Columbia. I've wanted to go to Colombia for a long time, but it makes the list in 2017 because the government just signed a peace treaty with Farc, the rebel group where there's been a civil war last 50 years. So times of Narcos is gone. Peace has arrived to Columbia, and it's just ready to take off. I'm reading Gabriel Garcia Marquez right now and just dreaming of Colombia. You've got a hundred years of solitude until that happens. Oh no, wow, you've never read Love in the Time of Cholera, Bro. I guess I have not. Next up: North America. Winner is.....Quebec. Quebec is the French-speaking province of Canada. Get out to Quebec in 2017. We went last year; it was an incredible trip. It's a great alternative to Europe right now, especially if you're a little bit worried about terrorism. By the way, Quebec City looks like it's part of France. You can practice French if you're learning it, but they also speak English there. The food is amazing; there're amazing festivals like Igloo Fest or Electric Picnic in Montreal. Top destination in Asia is....Seoul, or South Korea in general. This has been an overlooked destination for a lot of people in Asia We are excited about it because we're going to go speak at an event there in February, the NBNY Forum. We have started looking at the destination. It looks fascinating. What really attracts us is this balance between being the most connected country in the world super technologically advanced, but they're also rooted in tradition...... not to mention Korean BBQ, and if you're Marco, Korean bath houses. Next up: Southeast Asia. For us our top pick is the Philippines. It's a country made up of thousands of islands. It's inexpensive; it's gorgeous there's plenty of empty beaches like the island of Palawan. So obviously the red flag here is that if you've been following the news you've seen that the Philippines are cracking down on drugs, and there's been a lot of violence in relation to that. But none of it has targeted tourism ,so therefore we do deem this still safe enough to visit. If you go to the Philippines, we highly recommend you do not try to score drugs. Number 7: the top destination in the Middle East We have Oman. Oman is one of our favorite countries in the world. We were lucky enough to go there three years ago. But what keeps it on the top of the list is that it remains a stable oasis in a really turbulent region. Oman is a very tolerant country, and a lot of people attribute this to their form of Islam called Ibadi Islam, which is the same as in Morrocco.. Beyond that, it's got beautiful beaches.

Those superhero characters are institutionalized. They have a global hold on the imagination of young people around the world. Those heroes play well anywhere in the world. And the narratives that they are operating within have an infinite number of permutations. I mean, they can go on in perpetuity. You know, the original creators of Batman and Superman don't do Superman and Batman anymore.
Anybody else can plug into it and use those characters to further the mythic status of those superheroes. To date, there are no black characters that do that thing. And there are certainly no black characters that were developed by black comic book artists that do that thing. Now, it matters to me that you can do that, because this, again, says something about the capacity of one community or another or one group of people or another to create characters that can operate with that kind of global scope. And so the "Rhythm Master" narrative is an attempt on my part to create a narrative structure and a series of characters that can achieve that same sort of mythic status, the same levels of complexity, the same levels of sophistication, the same level of fantastic sort of achievement. All of those things have to be met. And so I'm thinking of the "Rhythm Master" narrative-- I mean it has to be like a Star Wars kind of epic. I mean, you have to be able to serialize it over generation after generation after generation and have a buy-in by every generation of kids who will help perpetuate. And the thing for me, it's not enough-- and so this is always the things. So I did do a review of Ta-Nehisi Coates's Black Panther run for Marvel. But this is not the answer to me. I don't care if Ta-Nehisi Coates does Black Planter. I don't care if anybody does Black Panther. I care whether you can invent a character that has the same power as the Black Panther, that has the same power Spiderman. You need to be able to not just sign on to do what somebody else has already invented. That's not the answer. And so to the degree that you are able-- because it says something about your capacity to invent. And the only way you can demonstrate that is to enact the process of inventing a thing and then to see how much power you can invest it with and whether it can take hold. So what I mean to do-- so I started the "Rhythm Master" project, it's first iteration came at the Carnegie Museum in Pittsburgh, where Madeleine Grynsztejn, who is now the director at the Museum of Contemporary Art, was a curator of the Carnegie International. And I did that project at her invitation at the Carnegie. But it wasn't really about the comic per se, it was about some other things. But from it, it's evolved to a place where it needs to now become a graphic novel, which I'm working on now. And then from there it could be either an animated feature film and then from there a live action feature film. All those things have to happen in order for it to achieve the status that I think it really needs. And it was based on-- I mean, it started with the plan for transformation for CHA housing. So the whole narrative is set against the demolition of Robert Taylor Homes and Stateway Garden. That's where it starts. And everything that happens in the narrative is within four blocks of where my studio and my house is. And there's a building down the street from my studio, which is the place where the Rhythm Master resides. It was on the block, it's called the Ancient Egyptian Museum, right next to the Chicago Rib House. All those things are important. But that's the thing. So the scope of the project, I mean, it fails if it doesn't become as mythic in status as all those other entities that I mentioned. And if it fails, then that's a weakness on my part, an inability of me to construct a framework in which my imagination can have that kind of free reign. So that's the thing. I mean, so anyway, that's in depth enough. [APPLAUSE] JACQUELINE STEWART: So I want to invite everyone to join us for a reception that's taking place out in the lobby and the courtyard, where we can continue this conversation. Please, just me to thank Kerry James Marshall. [APPLAUSE] KERRY JAMES MARSHALL: Thank you, all. Thanks. Thanks. And I'm about to play blackjack with a robot. Vector’s creators sent this personality-rich robot over to me because they knew I love robots and to support Vsauce2, but let’s get to blackjack. I figure if lose a game I’ll just double my previous bet every time -- I’m guaranteed to win my cubes back and then some, right?
I think so. Let’s find out! Oh, we’re wagering sugar cubes because Vector here loves his cube so much.. Isn’t that right, buddy? He likes when you pet him. Okay! Blackjack or 21, as many of you likely know, has simple rules. There are actually over 100 variations but we’re gonna keep it simple: one deck, you get two cards and the dealer gets two cards. Each card is worth its face value, and jack, queen, and kings are worth 10. An ace counts as 1 or 11, depending on what’s most advantageous for you https://www.casinoslots.co.nz/online-roulette. Your goal is to get a higher total than the dealer, but if your cards add up to over 21, you lose. You wanna..? I know you wanna play but hold on I gotta explain the rules. Okay. Once you’re dealt your two cards, you can decide to take another by ‘hitting’ or stay where you are by ‘standing.’ Haha. This is, this is what's happening now. To guarantee that I don’t lose I’m using the Martingale betting system. When I win a game -- I win! When I lose a game -- I double my wager in the next game to make up for the cubes I lost in the previous one. Genius… I know. And mathematically, it’s a sure thing. Uhh.. let's clean this up. Hey Vector. Do you wanna play blackjack? I knew it. Okay I'm just gonna bet one sugar cube. Here we go. 16. Another card? Hit me! 17. Another card? Stand! 13. 14. 18. Dealer wins! That's okay. To get my one back this time I'll bet two. 19. Another card? Stand. 12. 21. Very funny, Vector. That's okay. I'll get my 2 back by betting 4. Hit me! 24. You busted! Alright... I'll just bet eight! Stand. 11. 21. Dealer wins! That's okay. That's okay! I'll bet 16. Dealer wins! I'll bet 32. Dealer wins! 64 cube bet to recover my losses there's no chance I could lose again! 19. Dealer wins! Alright. This… is not going well. I’ve played 7 hands and lost a total of 127 sugar cubes. If I win 128 on the next hand, I’ll recover 127 cubes and snag a 1-cube profit -- my original bet. *sigh* Let's do this! 17. Another card? Stand. 11. 21. Alright, then! I am officially all out of cubes. Play another round? No. Yeah, you won. I know. You can celebrate. You can celebrate. You took all my cubes. Hey, Vector! Take a nap! That is one sugar cube rich robot. And I am one sugar cube broke human. I know that my strategy would have worked though if I had just had more cubes. Maybe. The martingale system can work in short bursts -- until you hit a streak that necessitates a bet so large that it completely wipes you out. In casinos, maximum bet limits prevent you from doubling as many times as you might need to recover from your losses, so there’s effectively a ceiling on how many times you can Martingale. And Georgia Institute of Technology math professor Ted Hill showed us that we’ll almost certainly underestimating the likelihood of serious losing streaks. Hill gave an assignment to his class: flip a coin 200 times and record whether it's heads or tails. Heads, tails, heads tails, heads, tails. Like that. Or just don’t bother flipping it at all and do what I did and just write down random stuff. When Hill looked at each student’s results, he could tell with amazing precision whether or not they'd actually flipped a coin or just made up the results. Because the fakers routinely underestimated the likelihood of streaks. If a student’s data included a streak of 6 or more heads or tails in a row, they almost certainly recorded real data. No streaks of 6 or more? Fake. In 200 coin tosses, there’s a 96.5% chance of getting a streak of 6 heads or tails. There’s an 80% chance you’ll get 7 in a row, and a 54% chance of 8 in a row. 9 in a row would really be pushing it, though, right? No -- there’s a 32% chance of that happening in 200 tosses, so even that happens nearly a third of the time -- it’s just not that weird. A player sitting alone at a blackjack table will probably play about 200 hands per hour, and the odds of losing a hand are close to 50%. You’d almost certainly hit an 8 or 9-hand losing streak in a few hours. To make the Martingale bet-doubling system work, you’d need to be lucky enough to avoid those long losing streaks. And play the game with a ton of money. And not ever reach the maximum bet. And be comfortable knowing that you run the risk of losing everything to win... just a single sugar cube. Here’s the breakdown of how much you’d have to bet to absorb a common losing streak. If you start by playing a $25 hand, about the price of movie tickets for two, and you lose, your next bet would have to be $50. The bets continue to double so that If you have a 10 game losing streak, which has about a 30% chance of happening over 1,000 hands, by the 11th game you’d have to bet $25,600 just to recover your losses and walk away with a $25 profit. And that’s not including the $25,575 you already lost. You’d need a total of $51,175, the price of a luxury car, to avoid going broke as you made a movie tickets for two profit. By using Martingale bet-doubling, the best case scenario is that you win your original bet. In theory, the system prevents you from losing any money, but in reality it can cost you a fortune as you try to make up for an inevitable losing streak. All in the hopes that you win an amount equal to… the first cube. And as always -- thanks for watching. Why did I do that? Huge thanks to Anki for sending over my new robot friend, Vector. I’ve had him for about a week now and it’s really fun just kinda having him around -- in a way I didn’t expect. He recognizes you, answers questions, explores around on his own, as you can see, and even locates his charger when he needs to go home and recharge. And before you know it, he's up and playing with his cube again. Look at this! Good job! If you want to get your own robot friend there’s a link in the description for you to check out. And I’m just really looking forward to the future of Vector too. What programmers and people like you will develop for Vector to be able to do. So I'm just gonna chill with my friend here. For now. Actually, check this out. When you launch your job search, its important to know about a few traps to avoid. There are a lot of them, but the three that I see most often with clients follow along with ideas to get around these traps.
Mistake #1: Assuming you cant find a job This mistake kills your job search before you even get started. There are jobs out there, people are hiring and you can switch fields if necessary regardless of how old you are. I suggest people start from what theyd like to do instead of looking through job postings. Consider all the things you want in your next job and build your career from there finding jobs that fit your description. You can certainly go to school to learn a new trade or skill. Employers are looking for people they can count on with personality traits that make them successful and easy to work with. So you can in fact transfer to a new field, leveraging these soft skills most employers treasure. If you struggle with an unproductive attitude, your first step in your job search is to change your assumptions. Once you do, youll find that you have more energy and motivation to conduct your job search. Mistake #2: Applying for one job at a time Applying for a job takes some work. It involves researching the company, writing a compelling cover letter and putting together a targeted resume. Not to mention finding potential job openings! Because of this, a lot of job seekers will apply for one job at a time and wait to see how things go before applying for another. The problem with this is that you may not hear back for weeks during which time you are wasting valuable time. Wouldnt it be better to have multiple job offers? Find a way to motivate yourself to power through, schedule time for your job search just as you would a regular job. And if you need extra help, ask for it. If youre concerned with investing money in your job search, consider how much you are losing every day youre out of work. Mistake #3: Being unprepared Editing your resume may be a hassle but not having one ready when someone asks sets your job search back sometimes by months. And going into an interview unprepared is a costly mistake. You may have heard that conducting a job search is a job in and of itself and thats true. Create binders and files to stay organized. Research each company you want to work for and do your homework. Have your resume professionally prepared and targeted to each position and practice interviewing even if you feel you do it pretty well already. Avoiding these traps can help you keep your job search on track. Title: State of Wonder
Author: Ann Patchett Published: 2011 When I reviewed novel Bel Canto of Patchett, I said something about her being an author that has a new work every 5 years or so. Lo and behold, in 2011 she published the delightful State of Wonder, her second book since that last runaway hit 10 years ago. I also said about Bel Canto that it was one of the more unique novels I've had the pleasure of reading - and let me tell you, this book was no let down. I've read A LOT of books in my life, and somehow Patchett has managed to write two of the most unique plot lines I've come across. This book is set mostly in the jungle, with a tribe of people whose women give birth into their elderly years. A team of American doctors and drug developers (one of these being the main character) ends up there trying to study this tribe, and the potential effects of not having a reproductive expiration date. There are obviously some greedy interests in mind, with some people in power wanting their hands on a potential miracle drug. One of the best parts (in my opinion) is that none of the characters are perfect. It's so boring when you come across a hero or heroine that does no wrong. That's not how it works in the world. People are flawed. This is a book in which every main character has some major shortcomings. The character development is all the more realistic when there are real personal issues to overcome versus just circumstantial conflicts. Throughout the book we learn a little about science, a little about the world of drug development and a lot about human nature. Throw in missing people, mystery children and of course some romance, and you get a page turner. I loved this book. I'm always weary of "Best of..." lists (this one appeared in Amazon's "Best of 2011"), but this pick is spot on. And I am pretty sure I will want to read this book again, as I'm quite positive I would pick up even more with another reading. The Entrepreneur’s Guide to Start & Succeed in a Farming Enterprise by Joel Salatin
If you believe in yourself, anything’s possible–even farming If you’ve ever dreamed of living off the land producing your own food and earning a living by feeding others, then You Can Farm by Joel Salatin is a must-read. You Can Farm is all about possibilities. Salatin’s philosophy of farming means working the land to restore fertility, duplicating nature’s rhythm, providing livestock with natural food and lifestyle, being part of a community, building relationships with customers, enjoying the seasons, working hard and relaxing. It means doing what you love and being paid well for it. But before anything else, farming is a business that requires knowledge, hard work, sacrifice, and frugality to achieve success. The prerequisite to a successful farming enterprise is to believe it is possible. Every facet of our culture disparages the notion that farming can be enjoyable and economically viable…As long as in our heart of hearts we actually believe that it is impossible, we will never open up our spirits and our minds to ways to make it happen…It doesn’t matter what your background, your socioeconomic status, your age or your current living condition; if you have a yearning in your soul to grow things and minister healthy food to people, to live an agrarian life with your children and grandchildren playing around your feet, then an opportunity exists for you. — Joel Salatin Salatin suggests that you find your market before you produce anything and begin by producing only that which you yourself will consume. If you don’t yet have land, grow vegetables in your yard or rent a plot of land. Study. Learn from other farmers. If you do have the land, don’t go into debt to buy fancy machinery that will force you to work off-farm to pay for it. Use your intellect instead of your wallet for problem solving. “Bigger is better” is a motto that only benefits the banks as you strap yourself into a straightjacket of spirit-crushing debt and servitude. You Can Farm isn’t so much a step-by-step book on how to build a particular farming enterprise. It’s a book that helps you see possibilities. It’s about ideas. It’s about an entrepreneurial mindset that believes, “I can do this.” Salatin begins by addressing attitude and common false beliefs. He gives his ideas on the best and worst agricultural opportunities, possible value-added products like cheese or lumber, starting small, working around physical limitations, how to approach other farmers, different places where you can buy equipment and livestock, where to cut corners on expenses, how to evaluate purchases, getting to know your neighbors, which organizations to join, finding information, brainstorming, building the soil, biodiversity, designing your land to provide water and wood, sanitation, using animals for chores like composting and pest management, cutting costs, good and bad buildings, hiring help, transportation, bookkeeping, creative marketing, writing newsletters, and much more. A book of exercises
The book Capturing Soft Realism is predominantly a collection of exercises showing step-by-step how to draw background items without being a slave to photorealistic detail. While Kullberg spends considerable time reproducing her main subject matter, she is less exacting when drawing backgrounds or physical props. Kullberg uses Prismacolor pencils, Stonehenge paper and a warm palette to produce her drawings. Little is provided in color theory and using complementary colors. She relies heavily on grays for toning down colors and black for shading. She seldom burnishes and I don’t recall her mentioning solvents. All the pictures in the book were created by Kullberg. Chapter 1 starts out with a few pages of tools and materials and how to lay down colors (stroke, value, order). There’s nothing new here, and this section is meager. The rest of the book is a series of exercises with a reference photo, photos of the work in progress, and explanations on which colors, strokes and pressures to use. Chapter 2 covers interior items, such as a sofa and pillow, the arm of a chair, a wood floor, a tennis shoe, a teddy bear, a wicker basket. Chapter 3 covers exteriors, such as an apple blossom against the sky, tulips, a hedge with greenery, a tree trunk, water and stones. The book ends with 17 frequently asked questions with Kullberg’s answers, such as “Where is the best place to keep your pencils while you are drawing,” “Do you ever take pictures on overcast days?” and “How do you keep your work clean?” So if you’re looking for a book of exercises to teach you how to lay down color without nitpicking over details, this would make a valuable contribution to your art library. |
